L’installation HU BOX (2004) s’inscrit dans une réflexion sur la matérialité de l’image en mouvement et son rapport à l’espace d’exposition. Conçue comme une boîte motorisée en déplacement sur rails, elle interroge la perception du spectateur·rice face à une projection dont le cadre est lui-même en mouvement. La vitesse de translation, calquée sur celle du personnage projeté, crée un effet d’illusion où l’image semble flotter dans l’espace, brouillant les repères entre fixité et déplacement, présence et disparition.

L’environnement sonore, développé en collaboration avec Taavi Kerikmäe, accentue cette sensation d’immersion en jouant avec la réverbération et la spatialisation du son dans le tunnel de la gare de Tallinn. Le son ne se contente pas d’accompagner l’image : il dialogue avec elle, renforçant l’effet de suspension et d’écho propre à ce dispositif.

Ce projet prolonge un axe fondamental de ma recherche plastique : l’interaction entre image projetée et espace traversé. HU BOX ne se contente pas de diffuser des images, elle les inscrit dans un flux, les soumet à des conditions d’apparition et de disparition qui transforment la perception du temps et du lieu. Ces enjeux, abordés dès 2004, continuent d’alimenter mon travail sur la matérialité des supports, le rapport entre image fixe et image mobile, et la manière dont le dispositif lui-même devient un acteur du regard.

HU BOX (2004) is part of an ongoing exploration of the materiality of the moving image and its relationship to the exhibition space. Conceived as a motorized box moving along rails, the installation challenges the viewer’s perception by presenting a projection whose frame is itself in motion. The translational speed, synchronized with that of the projected character, creates an illusion where the image seems to float in space, blurring the boundaries between stillness and motion, presence and disappearance.

The sound environment, developed in collaboration with Taavi Kerikmäe, enhances this immersive sensation by playing with reverberation and sound spatialization within the Tallinn train station tunnel. The sound does not merely accompany the image: it interacts with it, reinforcing the effect of suspension and echo that defines the installation.

This project extends a central axis of my artistic research: the interaction between projected image and traversed space. HU BOX does not simply display images—it inscribes them within a flow, subjecting them to conditions of appearance and disappearance that transform the perception of time and place. These questions, explored as early as 2004, continue to inform my work on the materiality of media, the relationship between still and moving images, and the way in which the device itself becomes an active agent in the act of looking.
